Tshiebwe impresses as Kennedy Catholic tops First Love

Oscar Tshiebwe showed why he is one of the elite prospects in the 2019 class last in the final game of the Clash at the Castle. He finished the game with 32 points and an astounding 24 rebounds as First Love Christian Academy didn’t have an answer for the 6’9″ center. The first half started slow for the senior as First Love was in a packed 2-3 zone. They allowed Kennedy’s guards to shoot from the outside and the shots were falling.

I was impressed with how Tshiebwe let the game come to him. He didn’t force anything and seems to understand where he is best at on the court and tries to get there every time. It appeared that he favors the left block as he was able to get the ball there and make two baseline spin moves. One resulted in a layup while the other sent him to the line for free throws.

He did manage to showcase his athleticism a few times as they got out in transition and threw down two forceful dunks; one of which was an alley oop. The athleticism is the biggest thing that stands out in Tshiebwe’s game. That really began to show in the second half as he took over the game and electrified the crowd with more powerful put back dunks.

One area that I saw that needs improvement is on the defensive end. He was put in pick and roll a good bit and it ended in an open look the majority of the time. He also didn’t seem to affect the game defensively. I can admit though that after watching Sagaba Konate for the last 2+ years. The good thing for Mountaineer fans is that Bob Huggins and Erik Martin can teach defense. Mountaineer fans should be very excited for what they see once he puts on the blue and gold.
